BAART PROGRAMS PRESIDENT JASON KLETTER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS NYSWANDER/DOLE AWARD
San Francisco, CA (April 1, 2015) – Jason Kletter, Ph.D., was awarded the prestigious Nyswander/Dole award at the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) 2015 Conference for his outstanding work in the field. Selected by his peers, Dr. Kletter has inspired colleagues, staff, patients, regulatory officials and legislators to passionately advocate for the patients they serve.
First presented in 1983, the Nyswander/Dole Award is so named for Dr. Marie Nyswander and Dr. Vincent Dole, the recipients of that first honor. The award was established to commemorate extraordinary work and service in the opioid treatment field. Those who receive this honor not only offer outstanding contributions to methadone treatment, but carry the responsibility to advocate for the dignity and respect of patients.
As the President of Bay Area Addiction Research and Treatment (BAART), President of the California Opioid Maintenance Providers (COMP) and Board Member of AATOD, Dr. Kletter has been instrumental in the growth of access to high quality, evidence-based treatment. He led COMP providers through a political campaign to defeat the California Governor’s budget proposal that would have eliminated Medicaid funding for Opioid Treatment Providers. In addition, he serves on the Advisory board for the National Alliance for Medication Assisted Treatment (NAMA) Recovery and works closely with state and federal policy makers to craft sound policy into legislation.
Dr. Kletter’s exceptional knowledge of the field of opioid addiction treatment, vocal support of expanding services to those who need it most, and focus on educating policy makers at every level of government have garnered support from all those he works with, and the Nyswander/Dole Award is evidence of his impact.
