BayMark Health Services Combines With New England Based Health Care Resource Centers

BayMark Offers Enhanced New England Footprint as the Leading Opioid Treatment Provider in the U.S.

BayMark Health Services announced today that it combined with Health Care Resource Centers, Inc., adding 15 established treatment centers in 3 New England states and the management of a 16th center in Connecticut. HCRC and its affiliated brands; Community Health Care, Inc., Merrimack River Medical Services, Inc. and Community Substance Abuse Centers, Inc., have been providing outpatient opioid addiction treatment for almost 30 years. The quality of care provided by these successful programs will continue to evolve with the additional clinical and management systems provided by BayMark.

“When we began to look for an organization to assume the management of our treatment programs, we knew fairly quickly that BayMark was the right fit to continue the mission that we have established.” said Edward Blain, M.Ed., and Chief Executive Officer of Health Care Resource Centers. “Their focus on not only the well-being of the patients, but also the well-being of the staff, ensured that our legacy will be maintained and enhanced under their leadership. The BayMark infrastructure will provide our programs with the leadership and support needed to meet the growing demand for medication-assisted treatment throughout New England.”

The opioid epidemic has been making headlines for some time now, with more than 91 Americans dying each day of an opioid overdose and millions of Americans struggling with opioid use disorder. The Northeast has been hard hit by the opioid crisis. From 2014 to 2015, there were increases of 25-35% in opioid related deaths in each of the four states HCRC operates in. Additionally, Massachusetts reports a concerning increase in new HIV cases causing additional worry for public health officials. These and other startling statistics illustrate the need for accessible, evidence-based treatment options for opioid use disorder.

David K. White, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of BayMark Health Services, remarked, “HCRC is very compatible with BayMark in terms of philosophy and clinical approaches in the treatment of those suffering from opioid dependency and addiction. BayMark brings experience to HCRC in areas where they were planning to expand, including other medication-assisted treatment options such as buprenorphine, more commonly known by the brand name Suboxone®. Additionally, we anticipate the expanded geographic presence to assist us in obtaining national contracts with insurance companies who are in an excellent position to help contain the opioid crisis.”

BayMark Health Services now operates 95 treatment locations across 26 states. All of BayMark’s programs are outpatient services providing either methadone or buprenorphine treatment supported by on-site counseling services. The Coleman Institute provides outpatient detoxification and aftercare planning services. BayMark is the leading provider in the U.S. solely focused on outpatient opiate treatment services.

The 15 newly acquired, and one managed location, will be known moving forward as Health Care Resource Centers, a change set into motion by the previous owners Edward J. Blain and Dr. Steven J. Kassels. The staff of each facility will continue to provide care for patients and expertise in the local markets for BayMark.
