MedMark Treatment Centers Kentwood to Hold Open House
The Greater Grand Rapids recovery community and the general public alike are invited to attend an open house celebrating a new opioid addiction treatment facility.
MedMark Treatment Centers Kentwood, a BayMark Health Services treatment provider, will host an Open House on Wednesday, September 12 from 1:00-3:00 pm. MedMark invites the community to explore the world of recovery options available in Grand Rapids, as well as tour the facility, meet our staff and learn more about medication-assisted treatment services. MedMark Kentwood can offer all three FDA approved medications for opioid use disorder including methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone; as well as on-site counseling and supportive recovery services to those struggling with this disease.
Michigan is among those states experiencing tragic increases in the numbers of opioid overdose deaths driven by prescription drug misuse and other illicit opioid use. According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, in 2016 2,356 residents died of a drug overdose, which is more deaths than were recorded from car accidents that same year. Additionally, overdose deaths involving any kind of opioids have increased more than 17 times from 1999 to 20161.
“The opioid epidemic continues nationwide and there was a two-fold increase in overdose deaths in Michigan since 2012.” said David K. White, Ph.D., CEO of BayMark Health Services. “The damage caused by the disease of addiction to individuals, families and communities can be reduced by improving access to proven treatment options. BayMark selected the Kentwood location to fulfill a need for our evidence-based, medication-assisted treatment in the Greater Grand Rapids area.”
To celebrate the clinic opening MedMark will be providing refreshments and sweets from a local favorite, Marge’s Donut Den. A number of notable speakers will be sharing remarks about the opioid epidemic and recovery community including Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard, Alano Club Executive Director Grant Young and Community Advocate Stefan Johnson. Additionally the Kentwood Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to perform an official ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming MedMark Treatment Centers to the community.
Chief Operating Officer Frank Baumann noted, “We are grateful to have received such a warm reception from the local recovery community, and are pleased to be bringing the much needed service to this area. Our Kentwood facility was fully renovated, offering treatment in a safe, modern medical facility for those struggling with the disease of opioid addiction. This open house will be an opportunity for us to celebrate with the community we look forward to supporting in the coming years.”
Orion Construction performed a complete renovation of previously vacant space that included interior demolition, new electrical, mechanical, plumbing, reception desk, treatment rooms, medical offices, bathrooms, family counseling rooms, kitchen, and state-of-the-art security system. The 4,109 square-foot build-out took approximately three months to complete.
A representative for Orion Construction said, “Congratulations to MedMark Treatment Centers on the grand opening of their new West Michigan facility. It was a smooth build out and above all else, a rewarding project for our team. MedMark provides valuable services to assist in managing a misunderstood issue in our community. We wish them success and thank them for the opportunity to be part of the solution in West Michigan.”
