OBOT Service Line
Philip D. Isherwood, M.D., FASAM serves as Medical Director for the Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) service line, providing clinical leadership across AppleGate Recovery, Middlesex Recovery, and Mahajan Therapeutics. A cofounder of AppleGate Recovery, he has played a key role in expanding access to high-quality, outpatient addiction treatment.
With more than two decades of experience in addiction medicine, Dr. Isherwood began treating opioid use disorder in 2004. He oversees provider teams across multiple programs, ensuring patients receive evidence-based, compassionate, and respectful care. His leadership supports a consistent standard of care across the OBOT service line, with a focus on improving outcomes and increasing access to treatment.
In addition to his OBOT leadership, Dr. Isherwood serves as Medical Director for New Day Recovery in Louisiana, a residential treatment center, bringing continuity of care across both outpatient and residential settings.
He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM), a distinction recognizing leadership and excellence in the field.
Dr. Isherwood earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and previously served as an associate professor of clinical family medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He also has extensive experience in emergency medicine and has held medical director roles in Opioid Treatment Programs in Louisiana.
A retired colonel in the United States Army, Dr. Isherwood served four deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing a deep commitment to service, leadership, and patient-centered care to his work in addiction medicine.
